Frangible Chromatophores
"Frangible Chromatophores" explores the concept of 'breakable color.' This installation features fragile pods, symbolizing the delicate balance of our ecosystem. Drawing inspiration from coral reefs, it highlights both resilience and vulnerability in nature.
Incorporating 'chromatophores'—cells responsible for coloration in animals like cephalopods—the piece reflects the fragility of life and art. The lighting mimics the rhythmic breathing of ocean waves, while hexagonal patterns evoke natural structures found in plants, animals, and elements, emphasizing the interconnectedness of all life.
Frangible Chromatophores is funded in part by a 3C Grant from
the Regional Arts & Culture Council.
